I currently serve as a Human Capital Management Analyst at Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD), an agency of the State of Ohio. I entered this role in April 2023 and have since been involved in posting jobs to the State of Ohio careers website, screening applicants through the selection process, leading interviews with prospective candidates and OOD panel members, and onboarding selected applicants into the agency. Prior to this role, I served as a Substitute Teacher with the Educational Service Center of Central Ohio. I was privileged to teach in 25+ schools in the greater Columbus area and work with students from many unique and inspiring backgrounds. Serving as a Substitute Teacher, primarily in classroom settings with students who have special needs, challenged the motivation behind my "why." No longer did I want to do something just to serve myself or make ends meet. I wanted to help others - namely those at the "bottom of the socio-economic pyramid" or those who could not fully fend for themselves. I found that it can be easy to build careers and even industries that ignore the needs of those who cannot fully help themselves - and I did not want to just get sucked into the system. I wanted to use what I had learned and experienced in the classroom to impact others and shape the trajectory of my career. This was a large factor in my motivation to apply for Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities. Upon graduating in the "Covid Class" of 2020 from Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, I relocated to Columbus, OH to begin my career with National Express. My role, a Transportation Manager in Training, brought opportunities to master day-to-day logistics, GIS software applications, HR with drivers and other staff, accounting of payroll and drivers' tasks, and project management of a minute-by-minute tracking effort to maximize efficiency under the "Driving Success" corporate initiative. This role saw me supervise 50+ employees in 3 Central-Ohio locations. Furthermore, to empathize with the drivers and fill-in during understaffed situations, I earned my Class B CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements. Though my professional experiences thus far, I have found my primary motivation for anything applicable to business – people. More so than to acquire income or earn achievements, my aspirations are to use the education and innate skill sets that I have been gifted with to create value for others. The greatest fulfillment lies in doing work for God to serve others, and that is what I truly seek in a career.

Substitute TeacherEducational Service Center Of Central Ohio Oct 2022 - Apr 2023Columbus, Ohio Metropolitan AreaThis role was a short-term solution to fill a gap in employment...but I loved it! It was refreshing to work with kids and see the heartbeat of the community that I call home. I mentored students from places such as Afghanistan, Ukraine, Mexico and Brazil in 1-1 and group TESOL classroom settings, assisting them in learning the English language. This included tapping into my Spanish knowledge to uniquely communicate and build relationship with predominantly-Spanish-speaking students. Due to my performance, I was offered a long-term substitute assignment to serve as an Intervention Specialist with John Sells Middle School of Dublin City Schools. In this assignment, I had the privilege of assisting students with disabilities through personalized educational programs. This included small-group settings and personalized attention to help each student thrive.Serving as a Substitute Teacher was multi-faceted and could look drastically different from day-to-day. One day could could be talking about college majors with seniors in high school, while the next day could be reminding preschoolers that the jungle gym was, in fact, outside on the playground...not the substitute teacher. Throughout my many unique experiences, I held daily responsibility for learning a newlesson plan and executing a well-run day. This often included managing a classroom of 20+ elementary-aged students. Furthermore, no matter which age or school district I served with, I was responsible for facilitating a healthy learning environment. I had the privilege to serve in 6 central-Ohio school districts and over 25 schools. The numerous locations I served in represented diverse socioeconomic statuses, ethnicities, and language fluencies. This position was not what I expected 2 years after graduating from business school. That being said, I am thankful for the joy and change-of-pace this position brought. I have no regrets and am thankful for this season of teaching. -
