As EVP and general counsel of Intertech, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zapco Holdings Inc., I traveled between our offices in New York and Washington, D.C., as the company initiated an asset acquisition and repositioning program during the nadir of the real estate investment cycle, when assets were priced at significant discounts to replacement costs.While building an $800M international portfolio of commercial and hotel real estate as well as alternative private equity (PE) investments, I orchestrated the turnaround of distressed real estate properties while investing in and developing office parks, redeveloping commercial and hotel projects, and master-planning mixed-use communities, which yielded exponential IRRs for our investors. I was a partner in each individual entity and project.With an ability to see trends, I stepped up as the resident problem solver for complex issues and capitalized on an instinctive business acumen to steer critical investments such as a Times Square property at 1500 Broadway and the sale of a hotel portfolio to Starwood, with Intertech achieving a 30X equity multiple over 12 years.
