Lead data analyst on a grant-funded research project aimed at analyzing the effectiveness of various bar preparation programs and determining which admissions factors best relate to bar passage. I created a Bayesian hierarchical regression model with Python and pymc3 to determine which admissions factors best predict law school success. Using the Rubin Causal Model and propensity scoring, I analyzed whether elective bar preparation courses had a causal impact on bar passage. To better analyze dispersed datasets, I took the initiative to create a law school-wide analytical relational database of student information in SQLite.

Forsyth Futures is a local non-profit that studies the community’s challenges and disseminates the results to stakeholders, with the goal of informing positive change. Some projects I’ve worked on include: I helped create a Benefits Cliff microsite by running policy simulations in R and Python and creating visualizations in JavaScript using the HighCharts library. I aided in the organization’s transition to R by devising R workflows, creating an internal R package, standing up and populating the organization’s GitHub account, and answering R-related questions from staff. I built a PDF scraper with R to scrape over 100,000 pages of PDF files containing childcare enrollment data, with the final result containing a dataset of 10 years worth of childcare enrollment data by month for every licensed childcare facility in North Carolina. We also needed the physical addresses of these facilities, so I created a Selenium web scraper with R to scrape the physical addresses.

Drafted over thirty procedural and dispositive orders – including summary judgment orders and dispositive findings of fact and conclusions of law. These orders ranged from five pages to thirty pages in length.Drafted jury instructions for eight jury trials. This required researching the applicable law for trial, examining the facts, and crafting the jury instruction so the law and facts match.Drafted three appellate administrative opinions. These opinions originated from administrative agencies such as the local school board, the Labor Cabinet, and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.

Wrote over twenty memorandums to legislators and staff analyzing policy issues. I also frequently discussed these memorandums face-to-face with legislators.Drafted four bill requests from legislators and ensured the bills were constitutional. I discussed the legislator's policy aims with the legislator before drafting the bills.Ensured proposed administrative regulations were within the administrative agency’s authority.

Worked with a team of medical professionals at the Kentucky Clinic, Department of Pediatrics, to identify legal needs of patients.Conducted client intake interviews to identify health related legal issues.

I deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan, serving as the team leader of a four person team. Our team accompanied infantry platoons on their patrols through towns. Once in the town, I identified the town's leaders and talked with them about the socio-economic dynamics in their area. Hopefully, meetings ended with us sharing tea and a handshake. I then briefed commanders on this information through both written reports and oral presentations.
