The goal of the Digital Academy is to up skill 300,000 public servants in core digital skills as the public service transforms to a digital first model. In 2015 Health Canada created a new branch, the Regulatory Operations and Regions Branch. The goal of this branch is to provide a complete upheaval of the many regulatory processes that Health Canada is responsible for. The Data Analytics and Business Solutions unit was established a center of excellence for data analytics and business solutions for regulatory applications supporting both the branch and the rest of the department. The unit has already successfully drastically improved regulatory workflows through various projects. It is currently evaluating applications of cutting edge technology such as deep learning and neural nets to regulatory data. My responsibilities included:Leading development on several high impact and critical projects such as building, deploying and maintaining cannabis inspection infrastructure and automating regulatory report generation for stakeholder which was previously all manual.Exploring applications of machine learning and deep learning technology to improve and optimize regulatory workflows.Consulting on best data practices for enterprise systems to foster a data driven culture within the Regulatory Operations and Regions Branch.
