Since 2017, I have led and expanded MacGregor's Engineering department in China to support local growth and meet high demand from regional shipyards. Grew the team from 10 to 15 local designers, providing leadership in project management, team development, and cross-functional collaboration. Successfully navigated complex challenges, including organizational restructuring, a merger, and the operational disruptions from the Covid-19 pandemic and Shanghai lockdown.Main accomplishments:- Reorganized the department into smaller teams, cultivating empowerment, accountability, and promotion of local talents, leading to an annual (voluntary) retention rate of over 90% for 8 consecutive years.- Set up a transparent KPI tracking system, ensuring each designer could track their own performance on vital metrics.- Fostered a customer centric approach, resulting in 100% design-on-time delivery KPI between 2022 and 2024.- Enforced better time management, reducing wasted time in department by 26% between 2022 and 2024. - Initiated cross-business-line collaboration, which at times accounted for 30% of workload, countering the cyclical nature of the maritime industry and ensuring optimal use of resources.

Responsible for the general route planning, pipe support assemblies, as well as global and local stress analysis using Finite Element Methods (FEM), pipe thickness calculation, and ensuring compliance with applicable rules and regulations according to project specifications.

Responsible for complete design and on-time delivery of RoRo and offshore equipment for vessels at shipyards around the world. Managed the complete design phase, from handover from sales through detailed design, stress analysis (FEM), cooperation with other engineering disciplines, to installation, testing and warranty. The project based, and prototype way of design, in the industry required constant and close collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, such as purchasing, shipyards, vendors, engineering partners, and 3rd parties (classification societies and national flag authorities).
