Brett is a co director of Our Curious Minds, mental health training company specialising in complex presentations, system complexity, trauma, risk contexts, personality disorder and forensic mental health. Our Curious Minds was created in 2016 with Associate Professor Andrew Carroll, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. Our focus is to enhance the capacity of workers and their organisations in the delivery of best practice approaches to recovery and care as well as building robust, trauma aware organisations. Our approach recognises that such best practice requires meaningful and respectful collaboration between clients, carers, peer workers, mental health workers, support workers and managers. As a practising mental health clinician, mental health consultant, educator, trainer and therapist, Brett has extensive experience in the specialist fields of personality disorder, acute mental health, complex care, trauma, forensic mental health, homeless services, alcohol and other drugs, intellectual disability and corrections. "I have always been attracted to challenging roles and complex relationship challenges, which has led me to work with a diverse range of organisations, supporting people whom are often marginalised, discriminated against, misunderstood and the recipient of well-intended but often misinformed approaches to their complex care needs." Brett is often sought to assist in complex care scenarios where hostile or fractured work practices, systemic anxiety, dysfunction and paralysis have emerged. This includes working with large care teams facing complex care issues and significant risk challenges, assisting in the formulation and planning of targeted client and systemic interventions.“It helps to focus on understanding the trauma impacts of what has occurred, the anxiety that is being generated, the risk that is being faced and the relationships that have been damaged or neglected.” More recently, Andy and Brett, as Our Curious Minds, have developed and delivered vicarious trauma training and consultancy to organisations where there is a foreseeable risk of emotional and psychological harm to workers from vicarious trauma.Brett has co-authored and delivered several papers and workshops at conferences, is regularly involved in training content development and is a co-author in the complex presentations chapter of Borderline Personality Disorder – Towards Effective Treatment (2010), Spectrum.Brett is contactable via: (03) 86920028 www.ourcuriousminds.com enquiries@ourcuriousminds.com
