Currently, I work at Google in a quest to democratize AI and make it more accessible, useable and less harmful to more people around the globe! I also work with companies helping them to understand the risks and opportunities in the model development process and how to manage the human engagement risk of machine learning and AI with human-centered design practices.As the Vice-President of Machine Learning Experience Design at Capital One my team and I - using machine learning and AI as a human-centered design tool helped to evolve an enterprise ML platform while operationalizing RAI.Prior to Capital One I was Principle Design Director at Microsoft, serving an amazing team of designers, program managers, engineers, researchers and technologists to help the nation's biggest companies actually visualize and realize a digital transformation that's built on a foundation of the hidden human truths of the world. Our team innovated with edge technologies and emerging tech including autonomous vehicles, IoT and IIoT, patience experience design, intelligent supply chain, digital twin tech, fin tech and many others.Before my job at Microsoft, I was a Design Research Lead at IDEO where I was blessed to collaborate with some of the most talented, kind and uber smart people as we created a human-centered designed future. I worked in multiple industries in transportation and mobility, health care, financial services and, of course, technology specializing in systems design. I am beyond thrilled to blend my love of human discovery - researching attitudes, rituals, culture, behavior and bizarre dress codes - with my nerdy need to understand technology, science and the world around me as part of design practice. I have a background in journalism, psychology, history and anthropology and, of course, equity and social justice and I use all of that experience in my design practice.I’m obsessed with ways to make future technology more human-centered and over 18 months helped IDEO develop some principles and practices to blend the unique special sauce of design research with the rocket fuel that is data science and machine learning to produce incredible design.Working side by side with data scientists for most of my career at IDEO and beyond has helped me to codify the theoretical into practical ethical guidelines to develop human-Centered AI.
