Owen Edwards is a Team Lead, Principal Accessibility Consultant, and video accessibility Subject Matter Expert at Level Access. He leads testing, remediation, and consulting engagements with a broad range of clients, including Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 financial companies, and provides expert consultation on video player, platform, and content accessibility.He is a core contributor to the video.js open-source web video player framework, driving their accessibility initiatives and helping to make it one of the most accessible, broadly-used online video players. Owen was a member of the FCC’s Disability Advisory Committee and a contributor to the W3C HTML standard and the W3C WAI accessibility guidelines and techniques. Previously, he was the research engineering lead at the Video Description Research and Development Center (VDRDC) at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco. He helped develop the YouDescribe platform that supports research into types of description for video, third-party description, and social sharing. Owen sees technology as a way to build connection, break down barriers, and increase access to education, employment, entertainment, and broad social inclusion.
