Previously, he was the research engineering lead at the Video Description Research and Development Center (VDRDC) at the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in San Francisco. He helped develop the YouDescribe platform that supports research into types of description for video, third-party description, and social sharing. Owen sees technology as a way to build connection, break down barriers, and increase access to education, employment, entertainment, and broad social inclusion.
