I’m a resource mobilisation, programme management, and donor engagement specialist focused on physical climate, weather, and ocean-hydrological sciences. I currently work in WMO’s Science and Innovation team. I lead on resource mobilisation for WMO research programmes, as well as delivering other programme and project management work across WMO's Early Warnings for All initiative, and the interaction between WMO and other UN agencies around the interface between AI and climate. I am an Oxford trained (undergrad, doctorate) earth scientist. I have a good grasp of the state of the art right across earth systems science and the current debates right across the remit of the UN's Rio Conventions (UNFCCC, CBD, UNCCD). I am also knowledgeable about DRR, especially in the context of seismic and volcanic hazards.I have over 15 years of experience in helping to finance, deliver, and communicate climate change and earth system science: fundraising for programmes and research (via MDBs, climate funds, grants, investments, and philanthropy), advocacy and donor relations, project development and implementation, programme management and evaluation, and impact story-telling. I have a particular expertise in EU funding schemes and private foundations.I’ve worked across academic climate science, different UN system bodies focused on the earth system, and private sector consultancy. I know how to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders, and can speak persuasively and eloquently about climate science to a range of audiences. I'm also experienced as an editor and writer, specialising in earth system and climate science - primarily the physical basis, as well as covering adaptation, mitigation, and governance issues. I really enjoy writing!In my early career in the UK I worked across strategy consultancy and fund raising for tech start-ups/University spinouts via private equity and angel fund raising. Most prominently, I spent three years in Oxford leading the UK's first major business angel network.I run and ride bikes, a lot (Strava @oxygendebt). Ideally in the mountains or the forests.
