As a Patient Care Supervisor of the Surgical Specialties unit, I directly supervise 53 of our 105 staff and assist with the day to day operations of this 39 bed unit. We care for a variety of surgical patients including Vascular, Bariatric, Open Heart, Thoracic, and GI patients. We also care for the more the complex Intermediate Care (IMC) medical population. I assist with hiring, discipline and performance evaluations. I monitor for appropriate staffing and help troubleshoot any needs that arise on the unit. I work with staff and physicians to strive for improved outcomes and processes for our patients. I worked in an outpatient cardiac procedure area and cared for patients pre and post coronary angiogram, PPM, ICD, cardioversion, TEE and bronchoscopy. I also filled in as a charge nurse as needed and was competent in admissions and discharges.
