Data Wonk & People PersonI enjoy both working with data and working with people. As a biologist who adventured into Information Technology, I found a niche gathering health and civic data online. A teacher at heart, I have found success both in customer success and in data analysis. I also enjoy working in collaborative environments.I have over 10 years of experience analyzing data for water quality projects and biology experiments using Access and Excel. Once the data are analyzed, I am skilled at communicating technical data in written reports and in group presentations. As a full circle career experience, I recently applied industrial safety principles to dataset ingestion efforts, reducing errors and improving workflow.

Data Analyst / CuratorLivestories Jan 2018 - Dec 2019Seattle, WaAs ingestion of public data sets increased at LiveStories, I served as the bridge between the customer success team and the engineering team, describing the way those data sets should be ingested to fit into our data model. This included writing consistent dataset and indicator metadata. Working with both on-site and remote engineers, I became quite proficient at collaborating remotely using GitHub.I developed processes for reviewing ingested datasets for errors and for improving the workflow efficiency. As the team grew, I trained two new curators and changed our work flow to take advantage of the extra eyes and diverse skills each individual brought to the team.Skills: Managed a small team that analyzed public datasets and fit them into our data modelWrote consistent metadata for datasetsReviewed ingested datasets, implemented quality controlImplemented processes to improve workflow efficiencyBecame familiar with federal and state public datasetsCollaborated with remote engineers using GitHub and Zoom -
Customer Success ManagerLivestories Feb 2016 - Dec 2017Seattle, WaIn a very small company, one wears many hats. The customer success role needed to be filled, so I rose to the challenge. I called on my teaching skills to train customers on our product. I used my data skills to format their datasets and upload them in to the program. I developed new skills in troubleshooting customer problems, characterizing software bugs, and representing customer needs to the engineering team.As the numbers of customers grew, I reached out to customers quarterly to determine their upcoming use cases for our product. My happiest achievement was creating multimedia online training manuals using video, photos, text, and screenshots.Skills Developed:Software trainingCreating multimedia online user manualsCreating online training videosManaging customers in SalesforceProviding software technical support and reporting software bugsIdentifying upcoming customer needs -
Business Analyst & Data WranglerLivestories Sep 2015 - Feb 2016Greater Seattle AreaHaving a blast on the LiveStories team. We are building a company that provides data visualization tools for non-data people, at a cost they can afford. I am helping to build public health data libraries on our servers, which will be searchable by our customers. I work magic with Excel files, validate data, test the software, and contribute to product improvement. In a company with only 10 people, my role is ever-changing and increasing.Agile and scrum organizationSoftware testing -
Adjunct ProfessorPierce College District Aug 2015 - Jun 2017Puyallup, WaI am grateful to give back to my college by teaching an evening course in Spreadsheet Applications. The subtitle for the course could be "Everything you ever wanted to know about Excel but were too confused to ask". I enjoy making methods of handling data accessible and enjoyable to the average person. Data is empowering, and it's a shame that many people are afraid of it! I also touch on free data handling tools, like Google Sheets and Google Forms. In quarters where the spreadsheet class is not offered, I teach an introduction to productivity software: Microsoft Office applications. -
Data Visualization InternState Of Washington Jun 2015 - Sep 2015Greater Seattle AreaAs part of the Washington State's Open Data Initiative, this opportunity involves working with staff from the Department of Revenue and from LiveStories, a start-up web-based data visualization service with the mission of bringing data analysis benefits to non-data people. I created website, user interface mock-ups, and proposed data displays. Once these proposals were modified and accepted, I used LiveStories to visualize the data interactively. The website generated will be used by the Department of Revenue to make data available to the public and to the legislature. I presented the results at the WTIA (Washington Technology Industry Association) conference on Seattle on September 15, 2015. -
Health Information Technology/ Database InternSos Health Services Jun 2015 - Jul 2015Walla Walla, WaResearched and presented possibilities for inexpensive online databases to track donor activity. These programs are also known as CRM's (Customer Resource Management software). My activities included eliciting project requirements, identifying use cases, creating a decision matrix for top 5 possibilities, and presenting all in a project requirements document. The database chosen by the SOS board of directors was Little Green Light. I then created a brief user training document for the program current and future staff.I also facilitated the automatic sending of medical test results from contract laboratories to patient records in Practice Fusion. I co-presented a talk on the use of interns in free health clinics at the WHAA (Washington Healthcare Access Alliance) in Olympia on September 17, 2015.
