I spend lots of time spotlighting people (corporate leaders, subject matter experts, employees, partners, and others) just not myself. My role is to make other people sound and look good (this is where my public relations skills kick in), which in turn makes the company sound and look good (this is where I tap into my media relations skills). What I do isn’t just storytelling, it’s about enhancing corporate reputation and increasing brand awareness (and here come my external communication skills.) You don’t always need to tell a full-blown story (but sometimes you do, more on that later). You just need some solid information worth sharing (I dig that up. I ask lots of questions so be prepared) and the know-how to push it out and amplify it (I got you covered here).Companies have lots of interesting stories but don’t necessarily know what those are (as a former newspaper reporter, I not only find the stories but also write them. And here’s where my brand journalism skills are ignited.) Lots of other people at the company write things, too, and oftentimes those things need…let’s just say adjusting (cue my editing skills). Remember what I said about making other people sound good? Editing is one of the things I do best and is sometimes needed the most.So, no one is going to know how great your company is unless there’s lots of content out there telling them just that. It’s me, hi. I’m the content creator.
