I practice an all-embracing, tailored, flexible approach that considers the client's unique needs and takes into account their specific challenges associated with aging. I assist individuals and families with issues related to the aging process. Areas of concern include everything from the retirement transition clear through to the end of life. Particularly difficult are the losses of spouse and lifelong friends. I enjoy and value the opportunity to meet with people, recognizing their individual experiences and the adaptive power people have in addressing a variety of circumstances along with life’s changes and difficulties.

I have the privilege to present undergraduate courses in the Social Work Department (evenings) on how federal and state legislation relates to the benefits Social Workers address in their profession, along with how to be involved as advocates for the people they serve. I emphasis the ethics of Social work and teach the process of applying rules, and policies. I have developed all my course materials and aids and present materials in a classroom/lecture based environment along with providing expert opinions on social welfare and the democratic process as it relates to advocacy and social work.

During my 15 years as a Department Chief I honed my skills in administering resources, including manpower, budget execution, financial accounting, program review, while adhering to prescribed federal guidelines, policies, regulations, and always ensuring Veterans and stakeholder needs were served. I provided technical guidance over all activities involved in my Department of 23 staff, along with interpreting, preparing, and proposing policy procedural guidance. I participated in numerous outreach and educational programs relating to the awareness and understanding of Veteran issues and needs. I was very proud when I developed and executed an outreach program to promote the enrollment of Women Veterans in the St Cloud VA Health Care System through the Regional VA Leadership Program in 2013. I am an accomplished Speaker and was active in outreach programs, monthly orientation and welcome programs at the St Cloud VA Health Care Center. One of the highlights of my career was working with numerous transitional Veterans in the Work Therapy Program within the VA. Our department would work with Veterans who wanted to make a new transition into the work force. As the Department Chief I was responsible for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointment, awards, advancement, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions. I identified and promoted continuing education and training for employees. I enjoyed compiling and presenting technical analysis of historical workload, statistical data, staffing standards and direct/indirect costs in the preparation of the annual budget and daily operations. I believed in sharing this information with staff so we could work together to obtain our goals.

Many outreach assignments interacting with the community to promote the Marine Corps' presence in the community. I also received Meritorious Mast Service Awards (3, MCAS El Toro California Marine of the Quarter Award, Military Police Awards (4), Police Officer of the Quarter Award, along with a Certificate of Recognition as the First Women to serve in the Joint Correctional Facility in Okinawa Japan.
