Represented clients as lead attorney in all phases of civil defense litigation, mediation, and trial practice in both state and federal court systems from trial through final appeal. Served as lead attorney in defending insurance companies in complex litigation involving toxic pollution claims and for claims needing extensive mediation practice. Defended large government defense contractors against claims in mass tort lawsuits with the usual outcome being dismissal or nuisance value settlement.

Lead counsel for felony cases, from appointment through post-trial motions. Served as lead counsel for appeals that resulted from capital, other felony, and habeas cases, as well as cold-record appeals to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. • Responsible as lead counsel in the first two capital cases tried in the federal system under the Federal Death Penalty Act of 1994 thereby creating the standard procedures for such cases in the federal court system.

Responsible as lead counsel for all aspects of capital defense from appointment through final appeal.• Created a unique argument regarding the unconstitutional burden placed on defendants under the Oklahoma law establishing a defendant’s capacity to stand trial in capital murder cases; won a 9-0 favorable decision in the United States Supreme Court.
