About Paul Arends

My 25+ years in the aviation business have enabled me to live my passion for helping customers attain the world's finest products and services! In my nearly 30 years as a sales, services, and safety professional, I have thoroughly enjoyed developing and building relationships that last decades, and result in closer ties between individuals, companies, and cultures. My particular expertise includes sales and customer service through building trust with my customers. That trust comes from caring about my customers' needs more than my own, something I've been practicing since I began selling newspapers at age 11. More recently, I've put my skills to use with international clients including airlines, governmental agencies and private, high net worth individuals.Another passion is organizational development. My goal is to improve the function of every organization I join, whether through enhanced teamwork, process improvements, quality initiatives, culture work, or any number of other methods. We should all love what we do, and I believe stronger organizations can help companies achieve ever greater heights through more passionate and engaged employees and improved cultures.

Business Manager

Lynnwood, Washington, Us

I managed the business between Crane and several of our strategic customers, including major aircraft OEM's (civil and defense) and Tier 1 integrators, to ensure their success in using our products and services. These businesses totaled nearly one billion dollars in contracts, and I negotiated or assisted in the negotiation of an additional several hundred million dollars in contracts for new or existing products and services. I created the financial model used to analyze the RFQ and Crane's proposal for a $600M contract extension for our largest customer. Ultimately, I was responsible for being the "Voice of the Customer" within Crane to assist in creating products and services that met our customers' needs.

Jul 2015 - Jun 2021

Director Of Sales

Bothell, Washington, Us

As a leader on the sales team, I led the pursuit of VVIP and Head-of-State aircraft interior completions with a focus on Boeing Business Jets for clients in the Middle East. Our customers and prospective customers included members of ruling families and the leaders of quasi-governmental organizations responsible for operating airline fleets for the countries' leadership.

Apr 2014 - Mar 2015

Airline Account Manager

Arlington, Va, Us

I worked very closely with international airlines while in two separate Boeing organizations:While in Commercial Aviation Services (now BGS), I worked with European airline customers to resolve their in-service issues, and I conducted reliability reviews to improve my customers' on-time performance. These reviews were held with the airlines' management, usually including their VP's of Maintenance and Engineering. A working knowledge of the customer contracts was required to understand the levels of service and support that were due to each customer. I was able to help several of my customers improve their on-time dispatch metrics. While working for Airplane Programs, I led the team of engineers, purchasing agents and configuration professionals to configure, design, and deliver twin-aisle airplanes to international airline customers, primarily in the Middle East. These were extremely complex programs involving the flight deck, premium and economy seating, galleys, in-fight entertainment systems, and virtually every visible surface within the aircraft cabin. The first of these programs delivered 15 months after firm configuration, a process that usually requires 30-36 months. All my programs delivered on time and without configuration or engineering errors. And as an important member of the Sales team, I played a key role in the sale of 20+ additional twin-aisle airplanes (~$6B) to my customers. I was responsible for managing the delivery of dozens of twin-aisle aircraft, gaining the customers' technical acceptance of the aircraft and negotiating the final delivery contracts for the resolution of any unresolved issues. This required close coordination with flight line operations, engineering, and other organizations at Boeing.

I was a two-time National Quality Award winner.

Dec 1992 - Apr 1998

Assistant Professor

Seattle, Wa, Us

I taught Naval Science courses to freshman and sophomore students who were studying to become professional officers in the naval service. I also assisted my students with general academic guidance, and I provided training in seamanship to all midshipmen through sail training instruction. I wrote the standard operating procedure for operating the Luders 44 Yawl and managed the refurbishment of the vessel after acquisition from the Naval Academy.

May 1989 - Sep 1992

Naval Flight Officer

Washington, Dc, Us

As a young naval officer in an S-3A Viking squadron, I was responsible for tactics, navigation and communications aboard the aircraft. I also was responsible for leading approximately 30 avionics technicians, both shore-based and while deployed aboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69). I mentored senior enlisted team members in leadership fundamentals and worked with them to improve productivity in the maintenance of the aircraft. Some of my supplemental duties included acting as the squadron's Communications Officer, Cryptography Custodian, and Special Weapons Training Officer. I also conducted full-motion simulator training for flight crews. I held a Top Secret security clearance.
