With over 20 years of experience in the electrical and renewable energy industries, I’ve developed a deep understanding of electrical systems, project management, and solar energy solutions. I currently serve as the Director of Sun Arc Solar Systems and Solmec Engineering, where I lead teams that deliver bespoke solar solutions and G10 Relay Automation systems tailored to Ireland's commercial and small-scale solar generation sectors.My journey began when I left school in fifth year to start an electrician apprenticeship. Over the next decade, I worked my way up to becoming an electrician foreman, overseeing large projects and gaining hands-on experience. When the economy collapsed in 2008, I returned to education, completed my Leaving Cert, and earned a First-Class Honours BA in English and History from Carlow College in 2015.After graduating, I worked as an ECAS operator handling emergency 999/112 calls and advanced to a First Line Manager role. This experience sharpened my leadership and crisis management skills. I later transitioned back into the electrical industry as a project manager, which solidified my passion for the field.In 2017, I founded Thompson Electrical Contracting, which laid the foundation for my current roles at Sun Arc Solar Systems and Solmec Engineering.At Sun Arc Solar Systems, we offer Ireland’s only true end-to-end solar solutions for commercial projects without subcontracting. From design and installation to in-house ESB witness testing of G10 relay panels, we ensure quality and consistency in every project.At Solmec Engineering, we address long lead times for G10 Relays by providing custom-built automation control systems for PV Solar NC8/NC5 Small Scale Generation, ensuring that projects stay on schedule with tailored solutions.My passion for renewable energy, combined with extensive experience in electrical contracting and management, drives me to help businesses embrace solar power and support Ireland’s transition to renewable energy.
