Muhammed's research activity concerned trade and industrial policy issues, related to the manufacturing sector and South Africa. A central theme related to investigating econometric models which predicted firm survival using data collected from the survey. Muhammed also provided assistance as a fieldworker, conducting surveys with the upper management of manufacturing establishments, which were typically aimed at the CEO, finance manager and HR manager positions.
