Muhammed was an Analyst in the Competition and Regulation practice at Genesis Analytics. The practice area covers consultancy services for the following competition economics issues: merger filings and merger opposition at both the Competition Commission and Competition Tribunal stages; anti-competitive conduct investigations, including investigations into cartelling and abuse of dominance allegations; sector market enquiries required by the competition authorities; market definition and dominance assessments for merger or compliance purposes; confidential assessments of business practice compliance with competition legislation and of the risks faced as a consequence of possible anti-competitive conduct; the redesign of business practices that satisfy client business objectives and comply with competition law, and predatory pricing and margin squeeze investigations.

As a junior researcher, Muhammed provided research outputs for the Large and Medium Firm Manufacturing Survey (LMMFS) based at the School of Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu Natal (UKZN). The project was a large scale firm-level survey focusing on the eThekwini manufacturing sector, and a joint venture between the University and various tiers of Government. Muhammed's research activity concerned trade and industrial policy issues, related to the manufacturing sector and South Africa. A central theme related to investigating econometric models which predicted firm survival using data collected from the survey. Muhammed also provided assistance as a fieldworker, conducting surveys with the upper management of manufacturing establishments, which were typically aimed at the CEO, finance manager and HR manager positions.

I lectured the following undergraduate economics courses across two of the UKZN campuses:- Introduction to Microeconomics (Econ101)- Introduction to Macroeconomics (Econ102)- Intermediate Microeconomics (Econ201)In addition mentorship and tutor services were provided to students for the third year quantitative economics modules involving economic modelling, hypothesis testing, and multivariate analysis on the STATA platform.
