I first started working at ASA Express Cabinets Inc. The work I did for the company was primarily made up of creating estimates, quotes, and actively communicating with clients about projects. I would also handle all paperwork: licensing, insurance, and county regulation. I worked for this company for about six years now and continue to work part-time for them. Once I was at George Mason University I started to work for the program that helped me get into higher education, The Early Identification Program (EIP). Freshman year I applied to be a mentor for the different programs that EIP offers and was able to learn how to lead a team of mentors to organize a system to tutor and actively help each student as my site struggled at first because we could not help every student. After some time in this position, I decided to apply at Apple Inc. for a specialist role in their retail department. I then work at Apple as a seasonal part-time employee as I was still in school. Although, I was not full-time or in a permanent part-time position at Apple I learned a variety of skills that are useful to this day. As a Specialist, I constantly interacted with customers about their inquiries, concerns, questions, and knowledge. I learned by various interactions how to talk to a customer with the mindset of helping them so that they are able to find the solutions to their issues at Apple whether it was with technology or with consulting. Through these interactions, I was able to learn how to actively listen, effectively communicate, adapt, and teamwork. If I was ever in a situation where I did not know the direct answer I would find the best way to find an answer for the customer whether it was searching on the internet or asking a colleague who has had the same question or scenario in the past. I now use these skills at my current position at ASA Express Cabinets as I am always in contact with a client who has questions or concerns about their project.
