Profile bio

About Patrick Barnes

I am really loving the "agile" mindset and am quickly becoming quite the fan. I started programming in the days of "punched cards", the "software crisis" and "structured programming." But after 40 years, I still see software projects fail—and the bigger they are, the harder they fall. What's not to love about valuing people more than rigid processes, working software over documentation, customers more than contracts, and embracing change over sticking to the plan? I just finished my second major agile project and wholeheartedly agree that experiencing "the definition of done" is incredibly rewarding.I was actually very lucky to get into this business. Starting with nothing more than a bit of unearned native analytical ability, lots of great opportunities came my way. With some hard work I got the chance to earn 3 CS degrees and gain many years of experience developing software, managing projects, teaching computer science, planning IT strategies, mentoring the newbies, and advising technical and business leaders. These all provided the chance to make a real difference in many different business domains—in both private and public sectors; from large organizations to small startups; and from space operations to health services. I am very grateful for the chance to work in so many different areas, with so many great people, to learn and create so many different technologies and solutions, and to have so many happy customers and users. I recently saw posted on a coworker's wall the 10 traits that require zero talent. While I think I bring a lot of talent to the table, I was pleased to resonate with these traits and have redoubled my effort to deliver them: being on time, work ethic, effort, body language, energy, attitude, passion, coachable, doing extra, and being prepared. If you are looking for someone to help make your software project or IT organization succeed, please get in touch and let’s connect.

Listed skills include Sdlc, Software Project Management, Integration, Software Development, and 50 others.
