Direct drivers by radio, text and phone to find correct locations for passenger pick ups and drop offs. Continually monitor driver manifests to arrange trips in best, most efficient order to help drivers stay on schedule. Assist drivers who get behind schedule by moving trips off their manifests to other drivers who are able to take on more trips without getting behind. Provide Customer Service to people calling in on phone for information, frequently about the timing of their ride, sometimes scheduling new trips for people wanting trips for the same day, or changing trips that are already scheduled. I Supervise anywhere from 1 to 4 other Dispatchers, providing training for procedures they are not familiar with or have forgotten. When new Dispatchers are hired, or relocate from other departments, I train them in the correct use of the software program we use to manage the drivers' schedules. When buses break down or are involved in wrecks I reschedule trips off of that driver's schedule to other drivers and make appropriate notifications to maintenance, supervisors, and emergency services, if needed.

Provide safe door-to-door transportation primarily for elderly and disabled passengers. Other trips are for anyone who wants to ride with us from rural areas in the surrounding counties into the Charlottesville urban area and back.

Involved in the interviewing and hiring of new drivers. Supervised approximately half the fleet of drivers, 60 - 70 drivers in the fleet at the time. In charge of the training for new drivers as well as the mandated annual training for all employees. Monitored all aspects of safety within the facility and on the road, including responding when there were wrecks involving our drivers/vehicles to determine whether or not drug and alcohol testing was required.

The Defense Supply Center, Richmond (DSCR) is part of the logistics system, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), for the Department of Defense (DoD). On the compound are many warehouses used to store various supplies as well as office buildings and various activities open to the general public. My primary responsibility at the Center was physical security to ensure the supplies for the DoD were kept secure. Monitoring pedestrian traffic entering the DLA area with appropriate identification, inspection of all containers pedestrians exit with; inspect drivers licenses, locks, seals, and paperwork for trucks entering and exiting. On the days I was a mobile unit, I would check the pedestrian entrances to the warehouses to make sure they they were secure, check the roll up doors for the warehouses to make sure they were all closed if no one was using them. I would also do a perimeter fence line checks inspecting for breaches and I walked through office buildings. Physical security does not require Police Academy training, but I took the opportunity, when presented, to go to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Georgia to attend their Mixed Basic Police Training Program. I was then offered additional training in estimating vehicle speed visually, and using radar to confirm the estimate. Some of the time I would be posted at the exterior gates to monitor traffic entering, mostly watching for expired registrations, expired state vehicle inspection and gave directions when people stopped and asked for help.

Active Duty for Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) from January 1991 until August 1991. Duties I performed in country were security for troop transport vehicle for troops working at Central Command; Main Supply Route (MSR) patrol, security, monitored convoys; physical security at a fuel point along primary MSR between Iraq and Riayadh, Saudi Arabia; Battalion Commander's Driver/Security.The Military Police unit closed after active duty service and I transferred to a Transportation Unit to get second Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and achieved rank of E-5/SGT by the end of service.
