I serve as a nurse trainer in a state correctional facility. The facility in which I work Includes the Correctional psychiatric treatment unit (CPTU) as well as the only ACA accredited medical facility in the country. The Kentucky State Reformatory is a medium custody facility that has not only a psychiatric unit, in-house dialysis, Nursing Care Unit, but also multiple housing units for general population inmates. Working as a contractor in this environment is challenging because we have to deliver appropriate health care in a very challenging environment to not only ensure the best outcome for our patients, but also mitigate risk for our client, the Department of Corrections.

In this role, I managed a territory of six counties and marketed home health services at the facility level by developing relationships with discharge planners, social workers, doctors, and other decision makers. Followed referred patients through the discharge process and made sure all needs were anticipated and met to ensure continuity in the continuum of care.
