Provide a comprehensive roads maintenance, coordination and management serviceResponsible for the co-ordination and control of a team of staff and the execution of a programme of work, ensuring appropriate work methods are used, monitoring work to ensure that it is carried out correctly and ensuring that resources are available when required. Changes in priority will require the roads engineer to re-schedule work and redeploy resources, often at short notice.The roads engineer will be required to assist with controlling cost and management of the capital and revenue budgets, and must therefore ensure that work is completed effectively and efficiently. This places considerable responsibility on the post holder to ensure the optimum utilisation of staff.The post holder is required to carry out financial analysis and provide information to senior staff outlining actual outputs and costs compared to estimated figures. The post requires a high level of motivation and commitment to undertake a wide range of complex and demanding tasks, some undertaken outside normal working hours.Provide technical advice to customers and other members of staff across the service as required.Prepare and present professional reports and technical advice to other sections of the department and external bodies.Maintain an awareness and understanding of changes in technical specifications and developments in the road and provide recommendations in relation to new initiatives and techniques.Check work prepared by others, including work undertaken by 3rd parties, as per relevant legislation, i.e. The Roads (Scotland) Act 1984.Work closely with other departments, services and 3rd parties to provide a comprehensive road design, construction and maintenance service.Deal with customer enquiries including complaints/enquiries from Council representatives, elected members, emergency services, statutory undertakers, general public, etc.
