Britain is great but Great Britain is who we are. We have learned to worry about much, brexit, immigration, fuel prices, debt and of course covid19 but, greater worry brings great distraction and, attention from the often uncaring or worse; the dishonesty that surrounds us. We are witness to a terrible invasion, the silently accepted white noise that is globalisation permeates every corner of our lives every day. At its worst we have created slavery in faraway places we don't understand because price has become our god, our monarch, and our place of worship. Many of us are not true believers though but with the blind faith of cheap prices then a dangerous patriotism will grow. Worshipping price is efficient, convenient, fast, and most significantly cheap but resentment will build and could build a unified racism that will be our undoing. The prices we pay now are merely swelling our landfills at an alarming rate. What do we buy and throw away after a couple of months, days or weeks or never return when it arrives broken? As we toss it in the bin, we shrug it off because it only cost a few pounds. Surely our landfills are our green and pleasant land, they aren't in populated areas so what will that green and pleasant land look like in 50 years? We cannot and must not blame anyone, but we must change now. The price we must pay is a greater one, one that sees the quality and someone making a profit because profit is ok and is not a dirty word. Our land prices are higher, rents, rates, water, electricity, all our prices are higher so we must charge more, common sense for sure but what is ruling us and causing us to seek elsewhere. Let's invest in ourselves whatever language, creed or colour is selling to us and that will bring us true wealth. No lightweight boxer would seek a title fight with a heavyweight so why should we. We must silently rebuild our foundations through manufacturing because manufacturing is selling up our creativity and proper manufacturing only happens when larger numbers of people want to buy goods. Maybe it is just a grommet, a bolt, a washer, or a belt but these are the foundation of our creativity. Our manufacturing is where Britain got its Great from and it was all our own work. Let's do that again. Whatever you make, create, design or manufacture, don't price yourself down to compete with cheap, gift wrap it with the Union Jack when you hand it to the buyer with pride because that sells. Fear just buys, buys, and buys until it can buy no more, and it heals nothing, not our nation, not your loved ones and never your bank balance.
