Patrick provides legal coverage within the Investment Management division of Morgan Stanley (MSIM) in EMEA, with a primary focus on the business activities of its Irish based EU fund management company and new fund and distribution initiatives.

Provision of legal advice and support in relation to all aspects of Fidelity’s global fund range and investment products, with a specific focus on the Irish fund ranges and operations.

Associate in the Asset Management and Investment Funds Group at Arthur Cox. This role involved:• advising on the structuring, establishment and authorisation of investment funds in Ireland;• drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation, including prospectuses, depositary, administration, management, investment advisory and distribution agreements, fund constitutional documentation, engagement letters, investor communications and fund policies and procedures;• liaising with clients across a number of jurisdictions, the Central Bank of Ireland, the Irish Stock Exchange, fund service providers, counterparties and domestic and foreign lawyers;• advising on a diverse range of legal, regulatory, compliance, corporate governance and company secretarial issues relevant to investment funds, including compliance with UCITS and AIFMD rules;• advising lenders and borrowers in relation to issues arising in investment fund financing transactions• analysing the implications of new EU and domestic laws and regulations and preparation of internal and client briefings and provision of seminars regarding same;• advising on the cross-border registration and marketing of investment funds; and• advising on regulatory issues relevant to regulated financial service providers in Ireland, including anti-money laundering.Patrick gained experience in a broad range of investment funds (e.g., UCITS, alternative investment funds, money market funds, exchange-traded funds, real estate funds, master/feeder funds, funds of funds, loan origination funds and REITs) in this role.

Completion of rotations in the firm's Asset Management and Investment Funds, Banking, Corporate and M&A, Environmental & Planning and Commercial Property practice groups.

This role involved:• operation of the Quality & Risk Management section of the firm’s client & engagement acceptance, conflicts checking and independence confirmation processes; and• provision of support to EY partners and staff in respect of Quality & Risk Management issues and requirements.

Review of account-opening documentation for corporate clients wishing to set up foreign currency accounts or avail of treasury services. Ensuring full legal and regulatory compliance relating to anti-money laundering, SOX controls and Irish Revenue rules.
