As Executive Director I lead KNOX’s work to bring this vision to life by using horticulture as a catalyst for community engagement. The organization’s programs address issues of food security, workforce development, and making Hartford a greener more sustainable city. That includes supporting over 200 farmers and gardeners working in 23 community gardens across Hartford, getting one ton of fresh produce into Hartford Public Schools and over 100 tons of produce per year to residents, helping kids learn about the environment, putting Hartford residents to work providing landscaping services throughout the city, providing life skills and workforce development training, operating the Frog Hollow Farmers Market, and restoring Hartford’s Urban Tree Canopy by planting hundreds of trees a year. Leading these efforts requires bringing staff, volunteers, residents, the business community, and government together to work in partnership with each other. It starts with a focus on developing a culture of respect and teamwork. Building on that culture, the Executive Director supports efforts to plan and implement these programs and initiatives to strengthen the environment and the people who are a part of it.

As Senior Community Engagement Manager, I manage and implement strategies to mobilize people to use their time, talent, and voice to make lasting change in their community. This includes working with employers, schools, nonprofits, and citizens to plan and implement meaningful one-time and on-going volunteer opportunities and showcase those efforts to raise awareness about issues facing the community. The position also manages and facilitates community conversations to bring people together to talk about their aspirations for the places where they live and work.

The Senior Manager, Community Investment leads strategic management of $2.9 million annual investment in education programs designed to prepare young children for school and improve academic performance. The Senior Manager also serves as lead staff for the Windham Regional Advisory Board, as well as education initiatives including serving as co-chair of the Quality Task Force of the New Britain Youth Network, the steering committee of Hartford Area Childhood Collaborative, and co-chairing the Family Literacy Task Force for New Britain Reads.

The Community Investment Manager serves as liaison to a portfolio of funded partner agencies and manage efforts to analyze, collect, and use data to support organizational decision making and communications efforts. Responsibilities with partner agencies include facilitating meetings and site visits, monitoring program activities, reviewing audits and financial statements, recruiting and leading volunteer teams through program evaluation process, developing and conducting training for agency staff, providing technical assistance for program improvement and to help agencies effectively run community campaign. Data management responsibilities include conducting research pertaining to community issues and grants, providing management and technical support for web-based application and reporting system, and providing analytical support to staff regarding advocacy efforts, marketing, and program evaluation.

As a Board of Education member I work to improve the quality of education students earn and receive as strong as possible. I believe by working in partnership with students, staff, businesses, and citizens we can strengthen our schools and the Tolland community. My decisions are guided by a commitment to providing a safe school environment where students develop the skills they need to succeed in school and in life, as well as a desire to make information easier for citizens to understand and provide feedback on.

As Chief Announcer I led efforts to clear announcers and improve the quality of announcing at WHUS. Responsibilities include monitoring the air signal and working to improve announcing skills of DJs through training and coaching sessions. This position requires coaching skills, working with students, developing materials and training.

Public Education Manager serves two distinct and significant roles. First, to direct civil liberties education efforts including curriculum development, conference and event planning, and chapter/volunteer management. The second role is to lead integrated communications strategy including website, newsletter, and media relations. This position requires project management, training, and public relations skills.

The Program Coordinator position oversees the operation of 55 chapters and work to engage volunteers on a variety of advocacy and community service projects. The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing recruitment and engagement of volunteers and chapters to meet the goals of the state office. This position requires volunteer management skills including recruitment, training, monitoring, and recognition.

The Director position oversees and directs efforts designed to build the capacity of individuals and organizations engaging young people (ages 5-25) and families in volunteer service. In this capacity, the Director is responsible for delivering training, developing program materials, and reviewing and awarding grants. This position requires the supervision of staff, strategic thinking and evaluation, budget oversight, product development, program management, curriculum development, training, and resource development. *Promoted from Manager Technical Assistance & Training to Director in 2003.

The Team Leader position supervises a team of three Program Specialists to conduct comprehensive services for volunteer coordinators within a geographical region. The Team Leader facilitates consensus on work goals and strategies for meeting goals that balance changing demands of the workplace with exceptional customer service. This position requires developing the skills of team members and building partnerships with donors and other national organizations. * Promoted to Senior Program Specialist in 1999 after successfully leading first pilot team.
