Patrick is recognized as a leading individual in the Legal 500 directory. The 2024 edition describes him as “utterly charming. He is one of the most popular members of the young Bar. He is hard working, intuitive and fearless. He will leave no stone unturned in his representation and presentation. He is one to watch for sure”. In previous editions he is described as someone who "can present complicated evidence to a jury with patience, charm and wit" and "the junior of choice in murder and serious fraud cases". He is known for fearlessly defending cases and he works extremely hard for both his lay and professional clients. He is also on the Attorney General's civil panel, advising and representing UK government departments in the most serious matters. He is also listed as a grade 4 prosecutor, specializing in organized crime, violence and sexual offences. Recently, Patrick successfully prosecuted one of the UK's largest organized criminal gangs of laundering money and human trafficking. R v Charan Singh and others (2023). He also regularly defends in precedence setting cases and was junior counsel for D1 in R v J and J, led by Queen’s Counsel, a private prosecution that was frequently in the national newspapers. It was brought by corporate solicitors against two previously employed banking litigation solicitors. The allegation was extremely complex and the trial ran for 7 months with D1 giving live evidence for over 2 months - believed to be the longest amount of time a defendant has ever given evidence in the jurisdiction. The jury unanimously acquitted the defendants in a matter of some 3 hours.In 2023 and 2024 Patrick was mostly leading counsel, leading other barristers in serious heavyweight criminal cases. He has also advised government departments, being on the Attorney General's panel of specialist counsel.Patrick regularly appears on his own in the High Court and Court of Appeal in high pressure cases, both for criminal matters and civil. He recently successfully appealed a custodial sentence where the defendant, who stood to be tried on a murder indictment, pleaded on the day of trial to a lesser offence. After representations, the Court of Appeal overturned the term of imprisonment and imposed a suspended sentence (R v Dipa Modhwadia).
