Dr. Patrick Gruber is recognized as an industry leader in the field of renewable resource-based chemicals, plastics, and fuels, now referred to as "Energy Transition." He has been the Chief Executive Officer of Gevo (NASDAQ: GEVO) and a Director of the company since 2007, taking the company public in 2011. As the CEO of Gevo, he has led the development and commercialization of net-zero and carbon-negative hydrocarbon fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and gasoline, ultra-low and carbon-negative monomers and plastics, and energy sources like wind, biogas, and renewable natural gas (RNG) to reduce the carbon footprint in manufacturing. He is also the founder of Verity Tracking, a distributed ledger technology (DLT) based carbon and sustainability tracking system currently being implemented by Gevo.Dr. Gruber is credited with inventing PLA product and process technology and co-founding NatureWorks, where he served as Vice President of Technology and Operations and Chief Technology Officer until 2005. He also sponsored and led the development and commercialization of low pH yeast to produce lactic acid, marking the first large-scale synthetic biology commercialization. Dr. Gruber spent 17 years with Cargill Incorporated and its renewable chemical joint ventures, where his role was to evaluate, develop, and commercialize new renewable resource-based technologies and businesses, primarily through joint ventures and partnerships. After his tenure at Cargill and NatureWorks, he served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Outlast Technologies Inc., a venture capital-backed technology and marketing company primarily serving the textile industry, where he successfully led a turnaround. Dr. Gruber is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Gruber served as a member of the Federal Advisory Committee for Biomass R&D and the Advisory Committee for the Energy Future Coalition. Dr. Gruber holds more than 75 patents issued and or pending covering production of lactic acid, lactide, PLA, compositions, applications of biodegradable plastics, production of renewable SAF, gasoline, diesel fuel, genetic engineering of yeast to produce alcohols, tracking for sustainable products, stabilized enzymes, and others.
