Global

 Lead a team of subject matter experts to shape the thinking for an operational, end-user focused design of core safety modules, for the new global HSES business solution.  Lead the collaboration and design of a future state, end-to-end framework for core HSES processes, linking assurance, compliance, event management and action plans to a centralized risk management module.  Initiated a project to automate the control effectiveness profile for HSES risks, aimed at streamlining the process for operational end-users to initiate their own assurance activities.  Managed a range of global stakeholders to ensure operational and functional requirements were foremost in the design of core safety modules in the new HSE business solution, including the revision of fundamental HSES processes. Coached, guided and collaborated with South American team leaders in implementing a shared leadership structure to build decision making capability within remote exploration teams.

 Supported HSE systems improvement initiatives as the HSE Systems Business Improvement Lead for all US based Rio Tinto Operations (Copper and Diamonds, Energy and Minerals, Exploration).  Engaged with asset HSE and operational leaders on a routine basis to identify opportunities for systems improvement and to share best practices across Rio Tinto Global Operations.  Investigate systems issues with site HSE personnel to identify holistic gaps in HSE systems capability while collaborating with an international team to initiate global systems support and improvement initiatives.  Collaborate with HSE business partners to optimize reporting and identify leading/lagging indicators, and gaps in data quality.  Coach asset HSE teams on managing incidents, injuries, and illnesses in the Rio Tinto business solution.

Bingham Canyon Mine

 Managed and led 60 haulage operators for 300K tons of production/shift. Execute Ad-hoc decisions to mitigate HSE risks and operational risks to the daily mine plan  Collaborated with a team of other leaders to coordinate personnel/equipment resources to achieve the daily mine plan. Established a shared leadership structure with 6 small unit leaders to build trust, communication, situational awareness, and a positive-growth mindset among team members.

 Managed a 10 person staff to execute training—for 200 personnel during a yearlong training exercise in preparation for deployment to combat & peace operations. Advised senior company staff on updated military tactics and policies. Mentored up to 20 small unit leaders on building trust and decision-making capability for their teams-in preparation for deployment to A-Symmetric warfare environments. Managed and led 20 personnel in a heavy weapons unit, accounting for: risk mangement, approximately 10 million dollars of equipment and weaponry, food and water, shelter, hygiene, and general wellbeing. Lead 12 personnel (including foreign military) on over 100 combat operations.  Engaged with local (Iraqi) communities to build partnership by resolving issues including property damage, water/food shortages and local insurgent networks. Established strong communication among team members, to ensure clear decision making in ad-hoc situations and increased situational awareness. Mentoring team members to ensure their decisions and actions aligned with the organization’s established values and, how to cope with stress associated with combat environments.  Facilitated cohesion in my team, necessary for emerging through the stress and challenges of A-Symmetric warfare.
