I work as a representative for manufacturers of natural health supplements. My partner and I have chosen to represent a limited selection of manufacturers so we can fully devote ourselves. We feel that this is an effective way to honor the manufacturers and educate buyers and store owners on the key selling points of the lines we represent. To this end, I use my 16 year background in Nutrition and Supplements to help broker deals for the health food stores in Arkansas and Oklahoma. I offer excellent follow-through, easy to understand descriptions of key selling points, and staff training both in the aisle and in the meeting room.

While working at Horizon Marketing, I learned a lot about the natural food industry that I had not learned from working retail. I learned how to communicate with buyers and managers on a different level; how to help them do what they do and how a broker can be truly helpful rather than an obstruction to the normal workday. Another responsibility was to gain placement for items that a store may benefit from having. Rather than just getting all the facings I could, I made sure to talk to the buyers about what sold well for them and what items they could bring in to motivate better numbers. Knowing the goals of the manufacturer and the needs of the manager or business owner, I could help everybody involved; distributor, brokerage, manufacturer, store owner/manager, and end-use customer. In addition to gaining placement and making strong suggestive sales to buyers, I also had to maintain healthy communications with all my accounts. Emails, Field Orders, file maintenance; all of these things are vital to being a broker. Being able to access all of this information made me more useful and made the job much easier. Perhaps one of the most important but less mentioned responsibilities is developing relationships. It's important to maintain a professional and friendly work situation with everybody you work with from co-workers to buyers and all the way up to manufacturers. After all, we're all human beings and treating each other with respect and cultivating good relationships makes life much easier.

The time period above was not entirely at ONF. I worked there for a total of 6 years and at other stores for a total of 5 years. As a nutritionist, I educated people about how to utilize natural health strategies to achieve optimal health. I know how to use Nutrition, whole food supplements, and lifestyle to help people heal themselves.Perhaps more importantly, I am able to convey information in a way that is easily understood. Empowering people is as important as educating them.

I also studied natural health and herbalism extensively to help in the process of making educated suggestions for customers who were seeking natural ways to maintain and regain health. This helped form the groundwork for my current method of research which involves seeking out every perspective on a subject and dealing in facts rather than opinions or speculation.
