Student Attorneys are responsible for every aspect of their cases, including interviewing and counseling clients, investigating facts and interviewing witnesses, negotiating with prosecutors, drafting and litigating motions, and ultimately taking the case to trial, if appropriate.

For more than 60 years, the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia (PDS) has led the nation in providing exceptional advocacy and legal representation for indigent adults and children. Among many other things, PDS represents individuals in DC's local criminal legal system who are charged with committing serious criminal acts and who are eligible for court-appointed counsel.

The Capital Habeas Unit (CHU) represents clients on death row in Texas and provides them with the highest level of legal representation with respect to their convictions and death sentences. The CHU identifies constitutional violations and new evidence to present in federal court. CHU attorneys regularly litigate in federal district court, the Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

The Criminal Appeals Bureau (CAB) is the largest provider services to low-income people in New York City who are challenging their criminal convictions on appeal or in other post-conviction proceedings.
