Operations Manager At Stemilt World Famous Compost And Stemilt Organic Recycling Center
Current-Manage a 13-acre compost operation that produced nearly 20,000 tons of compost per year.-Manage an organic recycling center that collects 45,000 cubic yards of green waste per year.-Handle logistics and create schedules for facility operations including grinding, transportation, feedstock additions, compost production process, as well as equipment maintenance.-Modify the compost operation from a windrow turning method to a hybrid system including aerated static piles.-Complete and assist with permitting with local health districts, Washington State Department of Agriculture and Department of Ecology, and the United States Department of Agriculture.-Keep records and complete reports for the Department of Ecology, Washington State Department of Agriculture, and the Chelan-Douglas Health District. -Record keeping of feedstocks, row composition, compost cycle status and finished product.-Compost quality control.-Manage between eight and 23 employees, depending on the season. -Record and submit employee hours via Field Clock application.-Procure a variety of feedstocks including horse and cow manure, yard waste, culled fruit, as well as compost amendments such as soft rock phosphate and limestone.-Analyze lab results and adjust operations to optimize compost composition.-Use and train others to use heavy equipment such as a Peterson horizontal grinder, self-propelled windrow turner, pull behind windrow turner, Vermeer elevator turner, front loader, backhoe, skid steer, 10-speed water truck, forklift, excavator, and roller.-Conduct monthly safety meetings.-Coordinate with Waste Management and the local public utility district to create and put in place agreements for use of the public's organic waste.-Utilize best odor mitigation practices, including installing and integrating Piian Systems' odor neutralizing system.-Leachate and stormwater collection and control, as well as record keeping.
