My position as a subrogation attorney draws upon my background as an insurance adjuster. Our clients are generally insurance carriers but may also be self-insured companies. My adjuster background is useful when reviewing estimates and negotiating with other carriers regarding any dispute(s) arising out of the work done. In addition, I write arbitration contentions on behalf of our clients, carry out various legal tasks and projects for the firm and clients, and work with outside counsel who are also involved with the litigation matters for the clients.

I am currently self-employed and have a general practice that I do part-time. The issues/matters that I handle include, but are not limited to, drafting wills and power-of-attorneys, traffic violation cases (non-DUI), advice to clients regarding business contracts and formations, divorces, drafting leases, and personal injury cases.

I handled personal injury and Workers Compensation cases. Some of the various aspects that I regularly handled included drafting complaints, meeting with clients, attending hearings, depositions, and negotiating with defendant counsel and/or adjusters.

My position is a multifaceted: (1) I write arbitration contentions, as both the Applicant and Respondent, for clients; (2) I handle bankruptcy filing; (3) I do various legal research projects for the firm and clients; (4) I work with outside counsel that are also involved with various matters for the clients; and (5) I perform other legal tasks, as needed, by the firm and/or clients.As a former adjuster, I have extensive experience in handling claims, writing arbitration contentions, and understanding how insurance works. When writing my contentions, I utilize my extensive insurance background and training in the law. Currently, my work primarily deals with writing arbitration contentions (as Applicant, Respondent, and Respondent-Counter Applicant) for automotive, property, and specialty claims from various insurance companies where the liability, coverage, and/or the facts are in dispute. However, depending on the project(s) and other work that comes in, these may take priority over arbitration filings.

As a Senior Law Student, I worked under the supervision of a practicing attorney on various civil legal matters for elderly persons in the counties around SIU School of Law. Some matters include, but are not limited to: Durable Power of Attorney (property and health care), wills, insurance, guardianship(s), divorce, and debt collection.

During the summer of 2009 and Spring 2010 semester, I was a 711 student (law student permitted to practice law under the supervision of a licensed lawyer) and worked as an Assistant State's Attorney. I primarily worked in the Traffic Division.My duties included: researching case law, reviewing files to determine what offers should be made to defendants, negotiating with defendant attorneys, reviewing videos for DUI cases, discussing offers with defendants, and resolving "no insurance" citations. In resolving "no insurance" citations, I contacted insurance companies to verify whether the proof of insurance supplied by defendants was valid, especially when the proof of insurance appeared to be false. In order to help others identify false proof of insurance cards, I was asked to create a packet of information on how to spot false insurance cards.During the Spring 2010 semester, I will be (have started) doing a public externship back at the Tazewell County State's Attorney.
