I lead the development and growth of a newly established research department at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Our research is focused on energy challenges of the Northeast and New York including electricity delivery in dense urban environments; distribution system modeling and reliability, micro-grids, renewables integration, energy storage systems, photovoltaics manufacturing, and building energy efficiency (systems and controls).

Director of Strategic Planning and Performance Management for a large scientific research laboratory. Establish Office of Policy and Planning, developed long-term vision & annual laboratory performance metrics, managed performance contract with Department of Energy. Developed corporate assurance system, established instituational strategy risk committee reporting to BSA Board of Directors. Managed >$20M in discretionary program development and technology maturation investments at BNL. Oversight and strategy for BNL's Technology Transfer Programs.

Develop policy and funding priorities for federal research in DOE Office of Science, NSF MPS, NASA Space Science. Facilitated inter-agency activities in physical sciences, including astronomy and astrophysics, large scientific user facilities (e.g. synchrotrons, neutron sources), as well as nuclear and particle physics. a led staff on decision making process for US to rejoin the ITER fusion project.

Molecular spectroscopy (Raman, IR, Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy, Resonance-enhanced multi-photon ionization) for lineshape measurements and measurement of low-density gases and trace gase measurement. Developed primary standards for vacuum and low pressure, new measurement instrumentation (low-drag spinning rotor gauges). Managed calibration services in vacuum, international intercomparisons.
