Patrick Lynch PhD RIBA MRIAI founded Lynch Architects in 1997.Patrick studied Architecture and The History and Philosophy of Architecture at The University of Liverpool University (1987-2003) and at The University of Cambridge (1995-6). His PhD was then supervised by Peter Carl and Joseph Rykwert at London Metropolitan University (2009-15). He has taught at The Architectural Association, University College Dublin, London Met, Kingston and Cambridge. Patrick also studied theology and philosophy at The University of Oxford.Lynch architects designed The Zig Zag Building and Kings Gate on London's Victoria Street, which won a number of awards and was widely published and exhibited internationally. The practise are also working on projects for Hackney Council, Westminster Council and Landsec. The practise continues to work on smaller scale projects and have a particular interest in listed buildings. Lynch Architects won The Young Architect of the Year Award in 2005, and exhibited as part of the official selection of The Venice Biennale in 2012. Patrick represented Ireland at The Venice Biennale in 2008.He is the author of The Theatricality of the Baroque City (Verlag Müller, 2011). Mimesis was published by Artifice in 2015, and Civic Ground, a version of his doctoral dissertation, was published in 2017, also by Artifice. Patrick established the Canalside Press in 2018 alongside his wife and partner, the German architect and translator Claudia Lynch, and is the editor of the Journal of Civic Architecture. Patrick speaks French and German, used to be a school governor, and is amazed at how many committees and organisations he’s somehow become a part of. He is a keen sports fan and whippet fancier, an Honorary Professor at The University of Liverpool and also teaches very part-time at UCL. He lives with Claudia in Hackney with their two teenage children.
