Profile bio

About Patrick Mcguire

I have obtained over four years experience of working on the operational delivery unit of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). I started as an administrative officer on the Central Correspondence and Enquiry Team (CCET) for the magistrates court unit for CPS London North. In this role I was the first point of contact for all forms of communication from the external stakeholders of the CPS such as the Metropolitan Police, HMCTS, Criminal Defence representatives and the defendant. Due to my high performance levels and valuable skill set which I developed on the CCET, I was transferred to the Magistrates' Court Deployment Team (MCDT) for CPS London North. I started as an administrative officer in January of 2020. By April of 2020 I was promoted to manager of the team. As the Business Support and Resource Deployment Manager, I was responsible for the efficient and effective deployment of our internal Senior Crown Prosecutors' (SCPs'), Crown Prosecutors' (CPs') and Associate Prosecutor to eight North London magistrates courts. I also had to liaise with and proactively build good working relationships with Criminal Justice partners, e.g. HMCTS and Chambers Clerks. I also had to liaise with the Senior Management on the legal and operation delivery units to ensure that the wider objectives of the CPS were met. I was responsible for overseeing the training of the administrative officers on the MCDT. I also had to ensure that my team achieved all the performance targets. As of June 2023, I have been promoted to the Area Advocacy Clerking Manager on the Crown Court unit for London. In this role, I am responsible for proactively building and maintaining good working relationships with Barristers Chambers, HMCTS and other Criminal Justice partners. I lead the Advocacy Clerking Team, with responsibility for training, workloads, managing the day-to-day business and performance, ensuring efficient and effective clerking processes and being the focal point for Stakeholder engagement and management.I have also been offered a place on the Graduate Prosecutor Pathway for 2023 which is an internal legal development pathway run by the CPS. This pathway is open to all civil servants in England and Wales. I have accepted this offer and the CPS will sponsor me to start studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Law (PGDL) at the University of Law which commences in September 2023. My ultimate objective is to obtain a training contract off the CPS and become a Crown Prosecutor.
