I am an accomplished and professionally qualified Graduate Counter Fraud Specialist currently working within an Investigations Manager capacity at the Department of Health. My background in fraud investigation includes over 29 years experience of countering fraud in a public sector environment. For 12 years I was with the Organised Fraud Team at the Department of Social Security / Benefits Agency, initially as Investigative Support and then as Investigator, before joining the NHS Counter Fraud Service in September 1999 becoming the first counter fraud specialist to successfully adopt a parallel sanction approach to investigations. In doing so, I directly created a model that allows for the effective management of evidence in complicated frauds, enabling the simultaneous pursuit and successful outcomes in the criminal, civil and disciplinary arenas. This model is widely used throughout the NHS today. As an Investigations Manager I specialise in bringing together teams of counter fraud specialists, lawyers, economists and accountants with responsibility for enquiries into high-risk areas of fraud and large scale or complex fraud investigations. My work has directly led to recent public sector recoveries of circa £58 million and savings well in excess of £100 million per annum.
