I started with ESS Education in October of 2023 as a substitute teacher, and it is work I enjoy doing. Not too long after starting, I was selected to be a one-on-one, a sort of buddy system for children that need help adjusting to the school system at their grade level or keeping their behavior under control. The boy I worked with for the year was a new student at Powdersville Middle School, and I was certifiedwith CPI before starting with him. The work consists of facilitating time spent in the classroom, making things easier for the student as much as for the teachers, prompting as needed to pay attention or keepworking, or to help him think things through and regulate his emotions throughout the school day. I have learned a lot about public education working closely with teachers and administration. On days thestudent I worked with was out of school, I subbed wherever I was needed at Powdersville Middle, which gave me further opportunities to better understand classroom management as well.

Upstate South Carolina

After graduating from college, I accepted a part-time position with a general contractor. The work I didstarted out small: bringing the right tools, carrying material and other heavy lifting, as well as cleaning.As time went on, however, through observation and training, I learned to not only assist with tasks butperform them myself. The work ranged from demolition and repair in one room to the renovation of entirehomes. Before long, I was cutting wood, nailing and screwing boards, and putting down flooring. I alsoremoved and installed toilets, wired lights and appliances, and took out and put in insulation. Buildingdecks and fences was another highlight of the job. Overall, I learned quite a lot, and I am grateful forthe experience.
