I work as a Technical Trainer, in the HR Technical Development team of Severn Trent's Academy.I've been in the water industry since February 2002, starting in leak detection and service delivery, and have played an active part in the response to some major supply incidents; from droughts and leakage drives during my time at Thames Water, to supply interruption and alternative supply events here at Severn Trent. This experience enabled me to become the Severn Trent's Continuous Customer Supplies (CCS) Technician n 2011, and when we set up our in-house training team in 2013 I became a Skills Development Specialist.While working as a Leakage Technician for PN Daly Ltd at Thames Water, I was asked to run a project that became known as the 'Leg Loggers': an intensive approach to reducing leakage, which lead to record low levels of leakage in a number of DMAs the Thames Valley Area (TVA). Not only am I proud of the work we did there, I am pleased to see that a number of the people that I recruited for the project, some with no previous background in water, have built careers for themselves in the industry using the skills gained on the project.As CCS Technician, I ensured that Severn Trent's emergency response equipment and tanker fleet were in a state of constant readiness, and that the technicians using the equipment had the skills they needed to ensure the best for our customers. This was reflected by rapid improvements to our supply interruption performance during that time.In my current role as Technical Trainer, I look to the skills required by our network technicians to then design training events to suit their needs and the needs of the business. I have developed training courses for water quality sampling, mains chlorination and flushing, emergency response (supply restoration, alternative water supplies), and assisted in the development of courses such as PRV maintenance and network operations. On occasion I have also facilitated or delivered training events to other departments within Severn Trent and to other water companies.
