Hello, my name is Patrick Shi! I’m a current Biomedical Engineering master's student with a software background exploring the field of neural engineering that’s seeking a role requiring leveraging technical problem-solving skills to contribute to innovative healthcare solutions within the medical device industry.I graduated from the University of Michigan College of Engineering with a B.S.E. degree in Computer Science and Biomedical Engineering. Aiming to further enrich my knowledge and apply my skills within the field of healthcare, I am now studying at Duke University under their Biomedical Engineering Masters Engineering program. I decided to specialize in software as well as biomedical engineering because I’m passionate about bridging these fields to advance neural engineering, particularly in prosthetics and neural-computer interfaces. I believe that neural engineering has great potential in opening the doors to innovative solutions to worldwide healthcare problems in the medical device industry. My background includes software development, systems/product design, machine learning, computer vision, and biomechanics, with hands-on experience in programming languages like C++, Python, and MATLAB. I applied these hard skills in various projects I have done throughout my courses, research, and student organization design teams. As an instructional aide (teaching assistant), I also developed great communication, organizational skills, and adaptive learning in order to formulate the best teaching methods for my students to learn coding and troubleshooting.Learning, problem-solving, and collaboration are at the core of what I do. I’m always eager to explore new ideas and work with others to create meaningful solutions at the intersection of technology and biology.

Research AssistantSriram Chandrasekaran Lab May 2023 - Aug 2023Ann Arbor, Michigan, United StatesWorked on a research project focused around predicting cellular quiescence. This study involved taking available omics expression datasets and predicting the quiescence depth of each sample within those datasets. The prediction involved the use of metabolic model called COBRA Toolbox. Presented all the findings from this project on a written summary report.
