I have worked and volunteered in Humanitarian and Community Programs for 10 years, primarily in Disaster Preparedness and Response, Migration services and Community Development roles. I have worked in remote locations such as Yap, FSM and with and for a diverse range of people and cultures. I come to my work with a strong Community Development lens and strive to work alongside communities towards shared achievements. I have responded to cyclones, floods, pandemics, health outbreaks, detention monitoring in complex environments with clients experiencing high levels of distress and trauma. I am confident in my abilities to achieve goals while managing chaos. Once such example was my work the Australian Red Cross in Darwin, responding to the 2018 Daly River Floods. In this activation, I acted as the Evacuation Centre Manager, where we evacuated approx 200 people from Naiuyu, a remote Indigenous community for 3 weeks. I enjoyed working with the community to support their needs at a particularly stressful time.I thoroughly enjoy working with people, connecting people and running with ideas for developing communities. I am most proud of my work with Football Without Borders, which I founded in 2013 and remain a board member today. We use soccer as a sport that connects people, to highlight the strength of people who experience forced migration, while building networks of people who are new to Australia. Through this kind of work, I have worked on many committees and events, including starting the first Human Trafficking committee in the NT, involving government, NGO's, advocacy groups and relevant community groups to work on community responses to trafficking, forced marriage and servitude in the NT. I'm currently new to Cairns after spending 2.5 years travelling and working along the East Coast of Australia on my sailboat. This journey built many skills, living off the grid and being able to continuing to work on COVID-19 response programs and Flood Response programs with the Australian Red Cross. I'm looking for solid work, where I'm able to use my skills to support either local communities in the Cairns and FNQ area, or to have Cairns as a base, while completing contracts in remote communities or overseas.
