High Resolution Imaging and Analysis of Materials using a suite of analytic microscopes including a JEOL 2100 Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), 2 Dual Beam Focussed Ion Beam Scanning Electron Microscopes (FEI NanoLab 600i and Quanta 3D 200i), Quanta SEM FEG 600.Analysis techniques include high resolution Imaging, Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDXS) for the analysis of contamination, defects in materials, ion beam surface modification of sturucture down to the nanoscale and imaging of biological materials using a Quorum Technologies PT3000 Cryo-SEM preparation chamber.Additional analysis techniques includes Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectroscopy with a Nicolet 6700 Spectrometer along with in-situ heating and in-situ electrical characterisation of nano materials using TEM.Currently my research is an SFI TIDA funded project where I am working with a major medical devices manufacturer on the feasibility of replacing wet chemical cleaning with more cost effective and environmentally benign alternative technologies such as plasma and supercritical CO2 cleaning.
