Joined the Company during a period of significant change with the appointment of a new franchise holding company.Responsible and accountable for an annual training budget of £1.6 million ensuring value for money and return on investment.Responsible for implementing a plan to ensure compliance of the Company’s franchise commitments with the Department for Transport relating to learning and development and cultural change.At the time First Group maintained a policy of outsourcing all training provision. As Learning and Development was responsible for procuring external providers for all areas of development. This included safety compliance training, train driver training through to management development and customer service training.Recruited, developed and led a team of sixteen trainers who were seconded from various roles within the Company and who went on to deliver a business critical technology project. Achieved on time and under budget, this project broke the mould of traditional railway industry methods of training. This innovative project was delivered in only six months to 560 frontline staff and went on to win a North West National Training Award 2006.Created a partnership with an external provider to develop a Leadership Competency Framework for over 2000 managers from Director level to Graduate levels, as part of a strategic working group. Undertook extensive research to identify examples of excellent working practices amongst the management population and used these to establish the core competencies and desired behaviours for the organisation.
