About Patrick Martinez

Nothing is better than solving complex problems with clean, elegant code. I have apassion for design and clean code. I love to take on new challenges that push me to learn something new, even if it is only to refactor an older piece of technology.I admire reliability, robustness and performance in engineering. It’s important that a product can fulfill its purpose.I admire cohesiveness and synergy in a finished product. Sometimes the total can be greater than the sum of the parts. I am currently looking to to join a team that can mentor me in the right direction.I specialize in modern UIs for complex data. ScrumMaster certified.

Southwest Research Institute Aug 2021 - Apr 2022
Intelligent Systems Department - Transportation ManagementFull-stack web development supporting our (ATMS) Automated Traffic Management Software which is about 20 years old and contains over 20 million lines of code. ATMS software is used by traffic engineers to perform various tasks, including setting highway message signs, viewing traffic speeds and cameras.Provided SwRI approximately $20,800 in cost savings by creating a MapHelper interface that obscured complex processes Esri/ArcGIS used to create map graphics. This allowed a developer to create icons and popups for a map in 2 hours as opposed to the 14-18 hour process that was required before. This also significantly simplified the codebase related to Map Icons.Provided SwRI approximately $70,800 in cost savings by creating a DataGrid Helper interface that abstracts the complex DevExtreme data handling and styling functionality. This reduced hours needed to create grid-based configuration pages to 24 hours vs 80 and delivered a more visually consistent, and maintainable component.I worked on Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)'s Regional Integrated Corridor Management System (RICMS). An integrated corridor management system (ICMS) ingests data from traffic signals by different vendors, analyzes traffic history and generates responsive signal timing plans to alleviate traffic congestion.I was in charge of UI/UX for a signal optimization tool. The main tools I worked with were C#, Docker, Kubernetes, OpenAPI, Angular. I am most familiar with Angular and front end frameworks. I also have familiarity with back end services and creating APIs for use by a UI.
