I've had a long and very varied business career - I started at Collett Dickenson Pearce, a legendary advertising agency right back in the go-go 1980s - I even worked on award-winning cigarette advertising for our clients B&H and Silk Cut! After some very fun years in advertising I became an entrepreneur. I launched two trade magazines: World Telemedia and Voice International with accompanying trade shows & exhibitions all over the world - from Acapulco to Hong Kong! I sold the business to UN Miller Freeman. World Telemedia is still going strong 33 years later and is now the World's longest running telecoms show! Starting in London, by the mid 1990s, I also had offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Beijing & Manila servicing China Media - a Chinese trade publishing business and Triton Telecom my international telecoms business. Returning to the UK at the end of the 1990s I took full advantage of telecoms liberalisation following the privatisation of BT to launch a new licensed Telco - Telecom One - which was very successful and briefly the UK's fastest growing company! In our best year we turned over more than £60M. With my French partner, Chris Cossevin, I launched and ran Solarfarm SARL an Anglo-French solar PV project developer. We developed or sourced large-scale PV projects for investor clients working with companies such as EDF and Engie however constantly changing government support policies in virtually all European markets made our jobs very hard. In more recent years I've worked on a wide variety of projects including advising new start-ups; writing business plans & advising on strategies; editing books & e-books, all great fun and I'm still very happy to work on such projects. The Ukraine War has made all of us and our governments far more aware of the real cost of our energy choices, not surprisingly renewables are benefitting and I want to be involved again. Increasingly I find that working simultaneously on a wide variety of projects is what I love best - using my analytical and creative skills to resolve complex problems is so satisfying.
