Paul Abrahams is the Chief Communications Officer at RELX, Europe's largest media group, and the UK's largest Telecoms, Media and Technology (TMT) company. He spent more than 15 years as an award-winning writer and bureau chief at The Financial Times. During that time, he worked on the Lex Column and was bureau chief in Tokyo and San Francisco. Paul was presented a national newspaper award by HRH Princess Diana for his coverage of the drugs industry. In 2003, Paul joined the San Francisco office of Waggener Edstrom, a leading communications agency. He was quickly appointed to the main board, as well as managing director of the UK operations. He advised some of the world’s leading corporations including Microsoft, Mastercard, AMD, General Electric and GlaxoSmithKline.Paul joined Nomura in 2007 as head of corporate communications for Europe and the Middle East. He was responsible for the full range of corporate affairs functions, including government affairs; external communications; internal communications; CSR; events; and marketing. In March 2012, Paul joined Reed Elsevier, now known as RELX, a FTSE 10 group. He is responsible for external communications (earned and owned); internal communications; social media; and brand and marketing. Paul received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in modern history from Downing College Cambridge. He obtained his Ph.D. from Darwin College, also in Cambridge. Paul’s book, “La Haute-Savoie contre elle-même, 1939-1945: les Hauts-Savoyards vus par l'administration de Vichy”, was published in France in 1997. Paul is married with two children and lives in London. He is an avid off-piste skier, a qualified ski instructor, and has represented England and Great Britain internationally as a veteran (40+) fencer. In 2009 he won the veterans Commonwealth Games foil championship and in 2021 came first in the 50-59 category in the British national veterans championships. He was a non-executive board member of British Fencing for eight years, chairing the audit and governance committee and a member of the nominations committee.
