My primary focuses are next generation cardiac surgical devices and systems and perfusion systems. I also have extensive experience designing transcatheter heart valve products. I hold patents for the design of transcatheter valve delivery systems and accessories. I work daily with mechanical, electrical, systems, software, reliability, predictive, manufacturing, packaging, and design assurance engineers, as well as marketing, regulatory affairs, technical communications, industrial and graphic designers, training and education, junior colleagues, and middle and upper level leadership. I have extensive knowledge and experience in all phases of product development. I co-authored our business unit's Human Factors Engineering SOP. I regularly teach and educate internally and as a guest lecturer. I established the Human Factors Engineering discipline in Medtronic Structural Heart in 2008. I co-authored the Anthropometry and Biomechanics chapter for AAMI/ANSI HE75 (2009): Human factors engineering – Design of medical devices, and authored the human factors and usability content for ISO 5840-3:2021 — Cardiovascular implants — Cardiac valve prostheses — Part 3: Heart valve substitutes implanted by transcatheter techniques.
