Writing marketing content is a fun challenge for me. Writing marketing content that’s also legally binding, for a department that contested eight figures worth of business a year, was a high-stakes blast.I began as a proposal writer in a division that served Pearson’s educational testing and K-12 curriculum divisions. There, I wrote proposals and related documents in response to RFPs, RFIs, and RFQs issued by federal and state agencies and local school districts. Collaborating with subject matter experts, sales personnel, and project managers reminded me of my collaborations with professors in my previous life as an academic librarian.When a colleague’s leave of absence became indefinite, I took on an additional role as the department’s content analyst. In this capacity, I took a nascent database of boilerplate text and grew it into a significant resource that helped my team raise its win rate from 50% to 61% and its overall production volume by 71%...all without changing our staffing levels. The work I did toward discovering, reporting, visualizing, and updating key statistics reflecting Pearson’s business performance helped colleagues in departments beyond ours.

When a friend and former colleague mentioned that Zayed University was looking for a consultant, I was all ears. The university's library had invested in a major expansion of its system software, and needed someone to configure it, document its use, and train library staff. At Neal-Schuman, a professional publisher whose list focused on librarianship and information science, I identified and promoted new book projects, helped authors develop their manuscripts, built and supported the company’s digital infrastructure, wrote marketing materials, and represented the company at trade shows.
