Duties include: Orientation of new employees. Completion of applications for prospective Peace Officer and Detention Officer Employees to the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council required by policy, P.O.S.T. Council Rules and state law as a step for obtaining certification. Maintain and report status changes, advance certification applications and completed courses to P.O.S.T. as required to keep certified officers records up to date and in good standing. Register employees to attend the Georgia Public Safety Training Center Basic Law Enforcement Training Course and/or Basic Detention Course. Assign graduating and new employees already certified to the Sheriff’s Office Field and Jail Training Program. Assist all employees in career development through goal training request from the employees and their supervisors. Ensure that all advance certifications with expiration dates continue to be updated with required re-certifications. Maintain Training Record on each employee, file of ever class taught at the Agency including Lesson Plan, Power Points, Handouts, Class Rosters, etc., files of all hiring and promotion boards and files of all after action reports. Assist the Detention Center when there are death notifications. Co-Chair of the Awards and Commendation Board, member of the Accident Review Board, Public Health Emergency Preparedness & Response Board, and Newton County Safety Board. Coordinator the Project Lifesaver Program which assist caretakers with persons with Dementia and those with severe Autism who tend to wander.
