As Group Head Mining, reporting to Technical Director, I was responsible for establishing a high performing corporate mining technical team to support all business units and operations across the group. Responsible for managing the day to day operations of the office. During my tenure as RM I grew the office by 30% and introduced project management systems to improve quality and effectiveness of consultancy services.

As Principal Mining Engineer carried out high-level technical reviews of a variety of operations (mass and selective mining methods) in Australia, South and North America, and South Africa. Undertook contact reviews and project managed several feasibility studies. Commodities included copper, iron ore, lead/zinc/silver, gold, diamonds, tin, nickel, and copper/uranium.

Responsible for operations management on major contracts, implementation of new contracts and establishing long-term alliances, evaluation of mining projects, formulation and implementation of business development strategies and tender preparation.

Responsible for establishing Australia’s first block cave to the designed production rate of 4.0 Mtpa and for the development and implementation of the strategic plan to support the high-level of technology in terms of systems and work practices.

Responsible for underground operation to ensure that mine safety, production and development targets were achieved. In doing this, increased production from 0.5 Mtpa to 0.7 Mtpa and improved safety culture by increasing the number of LTI free days from 19 days to more than 500 days.

Responsible for the Technical Services Department for the underground operation. Major focus was to change the mine from predominantly truck haulage to a shaft hoisting operation.

Designed and implemented the first long hole bench stopes, with rock fill, at Renison tin mine. Appointed Underground manager - increased production by 30%, reduced operational costs by 50%, substantially improved safety and work practices in a highly unionized environment.
