With over 30 years of consulting experience Paul has gained extensive experience of closure planning, and regeneration programs in relation to mining regions and major industrial facilities. He is adept at leading clients through this process and bridging the gap with investors and developers. Paul has been involved in the closure and regeneration of more than 15 metals processing plants – including integrated steelworks, rolling mills and precious metals refineries; and other facilities in the automotive, chemical and defence sectors. Having seen major structural change across his working life understands how poor planning impacts both people in the local communities and the bottom line of corporate organisations. Advocates that a Just Transition can only be achieved through building partnerships and delivery of a regeneration scheme that engages with local communities, economies and a sites assets. In doing this a wide definition of asset should be explored to generate value, and engagement with the circular economy. He has a demonstrated history of providing clients with solutions across the environmental & sustainability services sector. He provides insightful and pragmatic advice to clients providing them with a clear route map in defining their problem, the risks that it entails and the delivery of a workable solution that is focused on business needs and related to people, nature, climate and pollution liability reduction.Skilled in Geology, Environmental Compliance, Permitting, Waste, Soil and Groundwater issues, Regeneration and Just Transition, he is focused on the reduction of liability issues associated with historic industrial activities and waste management practices. His current role at ERM is lead a global group of closure practitioners and supporting clients to reimagine closure programs by developing best value either through redefining closure actions or developing beneficial post mining land use which can lead to a successful transfer and future custodianship of the land.
